Invent the creature
Read real cards closely, learn how a card works, then build a name from word parts like aqua, pyro and -saur.
Winter 2027 · Grades 4–8 · Live online
An English class where kids invent their own creature cards and write everything on them: the name, the stats, the moves, the battle rules and the pitch that wins a trade.
Each 45-minute session builds one part of the card, and one kind of writing.
Read real cards closely, learn how a card works, then build a name from word parts like aqua, pyro and -saur.
Precise adjectives and sensory words turn into flavor text that shows instead of tells.
Strong verbs name the moves. Kids balance the numbers and read each other’s cards.
Procedural writing: clear battle rules, tested in a real playtest.
Persuasive writing: claim, reason and evidence, then a class trade show.
A one-page rulebook to keep, a battle tournament, and the printed card reveal.
The part kids remember
Every student’s finished card is printed on card stock, sealed in a clear display case with a label they design in class, and mailed to your door. It is proof of what they wrote, and something they will want to show everyone.
Oklahoma homeschool families: the Parental Choice Tax Credit can cover up to $1,000 per homeschooled student for qualified expenses, which include tuition for online learning and academic tutoring. Receipts are required, so every family gets an itemized receipt per student.
Check the details with the Oklahoma Tax Commission. I am a teacher, not a tax advisor.
Dates, times and price come out first to families on the list. A class opens once enough families sign up, so you won’t sign up for something that gets canceled.
